Sybase ASE has been a popular choice for enterprise DBMS. Following SAP’s acquisition of Sybase in 2010 the development of ASE slowed down and the promotion efforts were reduced to a minimum. After the release of 16.0 in 2014 only minor enhancements in newer versions of ASE were introduced. SAP’s investment in Sybase ASE declined in favour of SAP HANA and SAP cloud strategy, which are promoted to users. All these circumstances resulted in decline of public interest in Sybase.
Then, since problems with Sybase ASE support availability and security arose, it made 50% of users leave SAP ASE in the first three years after the end of support was announced.
In 2018 SAP announced the end of mainstream maintenance for Sybase ASE. SAP’s support has ended for Sybase 15.7 and earlier, with end of mainstream support for Sybase ASE 16.0 expected in 2025.
SAP Sybase end of support indicates that a product has reached the end of its lifecycle, and no official maintenance is no longer available. If you try to get the necessary services from third-party vendors at high rates, it is not a credible option for an enterprise.
